Understand Norovirus
Norovirus is a type of virus in the gastrointestinal disease group that can spread easily and rapidly, surviving for days on surfaces or objects.
It can be transmitted through various channels:
- Consuming undercooked food
- Drinking water contaminated with the virus
- Eating unwashed fruits and vegetables
- Direct contact with an infected person
- Touching objects contaminated with the virus
Recognizable symptoms include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, and possibly low-grade fever, headache, and body aches, typically appearing within 12-48 hours after exposure to the virus.
Preventive measures include:
- Thoroughly washing hands with soap for 20 seconds following the 7-step handwashing technique
- Avoiding unclean water and food
- Frequently cleaning toys
- Infected individuals should avoid preparing food for others.
